Pinnacle Behavioral Health

Since 2006, families of at-risk or "troubled" teens have turned to the professionals of Pinnacle Behavioral Health to evaluate, assess, diagnose and develop a comprehensive treatment plan for their child and family. The success of our residential treatment program led to the development of an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) in Huntsville, AL.

We recognize that personal progress involves discovery that sometimes requires more than weekly counseling sessions. Our Intensive Outpatient Program was developed for adolescents that are in need of a more intense intervention to halt maladaptive behaviors.

Benefits of an Intensive Outpatient Program

Pinnacle Behavioral Health Intensive Outpatient Program is licensed by the State of Alabama Department of Mental Health to treat boys and girls ages 13 - 18 with a primary diagnosis of substance abuse. Substance abuse disorders, however, rarely develop without a co-occurring mental health issue such as depression, anxiety or abuse to name a few. This is commonly referred to as dual diagnosis.

Pinnacle's IOP provides direct services to youth that do not require medical detoxification or 24 hour supervision. An IOP is less restricted than inpatient or residential treatment and more structured than outpatient therapy sessions. An IOP also easily accommodates a school or work schedule. It is a healthy alternative to residential placement and is more often covered by the client's insurance.

Evidenced-Based Treatment

All programs of Pinnacle Behavioral health provide evidenced-based treatment with the disciplined, highly structured and respectful environment that is necessary for life changing discoveries to occur. Experienced and caring professionals work together to challenge and guide adolescents to a path of self-awareness.

Telehealth provides less formality and a more relaxed environment that most adolescents and teens prefer. In addition, this generation has grown up with screens as a portal to communicate. There is no learning curve for them.

Although Pinnacle plans to re-open its group therapy model once the pandemic is lifted, telehealth services will likely continue as we improve access to care.

Pinnacle's Ongoing Treatment Philosophy

The treatment philosophy of Pinnacle Behavioral Health is founded on the realization that emotional, behavioral and substance abuse problems that adolescents experience are complex and multi-determined. Contributing factors can be bio-chemical makeup, personality type, specific developmental or learning disabilities, family structure and functioning, and social environment.

Typically a combination of these factors has caused significant disruption in the cognitive, emotional and behavioral development of the adolescent. Rather than simply treat the symptom (example drug abuse), Pinnacle helps its clients uncover the core issue driving the maladaptive behavior. It is at this stage that progress in treatment accelerates.

Introducing teens to better coping skills leads to long-term healthier, happier lifestyles.
